Dr. Heather Fairhead, CEO

Heather is the Founder of Phico Therapeutics Ltd and has been the CEO since the company's formation in September 2000. She has a wide range of research experience, encompassing molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry, gained at Nottingham, Sheffield and Cambridge Universities. Heather also spent a year in the laboratory of Dr Peter Setlow at the University of Connecticut, US working on the proteins that comprise the core of Phico's anti-bacterial therapy.

Heather has a 1st Class Hons degree in Biotechnology and a PhD in Molecular Microbiology.

Prior to starting her scientific career, Heather gained several years experience working in marketing/sales and business administration for a range of companies including Roneo Vickers, Burberry's and latterly Cambridge Consultants. Heather has also studied for a range of business qualifications, and has previously set up and managed a small company designing and supplying printed commercial stationery and promotional materials.

Heather is a regular guest lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, and is often invited to speak at events focusing on Women Entrepreneurs. She was featured in the Daily Mail's Top 100 Women of Achievement in 2004, and won the CEN Business Woman of the Year award in 2005.

Heather has also written a regular newspaper column bringing science to lay people.
